Joker Phillips vs Lane Kiffin: Who Meme’d Better?

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer dipped into his SEC connections Wednesday, hiring former Kentucky head coach and Florida assistant Joker Phillips, via the good folks at Eleven Warriors.

Meyer continues to bulk up Ohio State’s ranks in an effort to challenge Nick Saban’s Alabama dynasty. Joker Phillips’ role on the Ohio State staff is pretty clear: the Buckeyes needed someone who could counter the meme-ing efforts of Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin.

Kiffin’s discovery of the Bitmoji app is the most whimsically absurd development of the college football offseason.

It took a decidedly sitcom-like turn Wednesday when one of his sons hacked into his phone and changed the appearance of Kiffin’s avatar.

As head coach at USC, Kiffin was reserved to the point of detriment. His behavior with the local media did him no favors as the Trojans underachieved in 2012, up to his firing in 2013. He’s shown more personality this offseason, rather ironically given Saban bars assistants from doing media.

But as much as Kiffin’s lit college football social media on fire with his Bitmojis, Joker Phillips remains something of a forerunner with his oftentimes nightmare-inducing memes from his tenure at Florida.

If Meyer’s to continue competing with Alabama on the field, he’ll have to win the battle of social media. To that end, there’s but one solution: Joker Phillips dusts off #ComePlayForTheJoker and unlocks the full meme potential of Ohio State football.
