CAL AT SAN DIEGO STATE

Kickoff: 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT
TV: CBS Sports Network
Line: San Diego State -7

San Diego State rides the nation’s second-longest winning streak into a huge game for the status of the program. The Aztecs rallied from a 1-3 start to 2015 to win 10 streak, including their first, outright Mountain West Conference championship. With their season-opening shutout of New Hampshire, the Aztecs bring an 11-game run into Week 2.

Rocky Long’s declaration in the summer of 2015 that Power Five teams are “afraid” to play at Group of Five programs might prove prescient. An Aztec win bolsters San Diego State’s chances of positioning itself for the Group of Five New Year’s Six bowl bid, while a loss gives future Power Five programs motivation to stay the heck away from G-5 country.

State’s defense is one of the nastiest in college football, particularly against the pass. Cornerback Demontae Kazee is an absolute ball-hawk, and linebacker Calvin Munson functions as well in the 3-3-5 stack as well as any play-maker Long’s ever had — including Brian Urlacher.

Davis Webb’s impressive debut shows the Golden Bears can and will continue to score despite losing Jared Goff and last year’s top six pass-catchers. But Kazee likely matched up against Chad Hansen, Cal’s most dangerous, new weapon might be neutralized.
