1. CLEMSON TIGERS

RECORD: 12-0, 8-0 ACC

LAST WEEK: Won at South Carolina (3-9), 37-32

THIS WEEK: vs. North Carolina (11-1, 8-0 ACC), ACC Championship Game

America’s most renowned crimson-and-white pom-pom shaker had strong opinions on Clemson’s ugly win over rival South Carolina.

Say it with me: Clemson is No. 1. Clemson is No. 1. Clemson is No. 1. Write it on a whiteboard 1,000 times Bart Simpson style if it helps.

Clemson deserves its No. 1 ranking, and it’s not a debate for any objective observer.

The Tigers’ regular-season schedule ended with weak matchups, but only after they beat a Florida State team that could finish ranked in the Top 10. Clemson also knocked off Notre Dame, which will again appear in the Top 10.

Those wins trump anything Alabama can offer. Mississippi State’s blowout loss to Ole Miss in Saturday’s Egg Bowl might eliminate the Tide’s only remaining defeat of a Top 25 opponent, barring Tennessee sneaking in this.

And, should Clemson defeat North Carolina Saturday, that would outweigh, or at least stack up comparably, to an Alabama win over Florida.
