USC fall camp wrapped Saturday with an intrasquad scrimmage at Howard Jones Field. You can read more in the coming week in my Athlon Sports column, but in the meantime, check out what Trojans head coach Steve Sarkisian and linebacker Scott Felix had to say.
The defense dominated Saturday’s scrimmage, bringing a variety of blitzes and making life difficult on the USC offense. Highlights included linebacker Michael Hutchings’ interception of quarterback Max Browne.
Felix said the defense had “inspiration” after struggling in recent days.
Sarkisian gave his final thoughts on training camp, most notably he “wishe[s] [USC] had two more weeks.” The head coach still sees the 2015 team as a work-in-progress two weeks out of the opener against Arkansas State.
Sarkisian’s second year at the helm of USC kicks off with renewed expectations, but the Trojans have areas that need addressing, particularly before the start of Pac-12 Conference play on Sept. 19. USC opens with a biggie, hosting Stanford in Week 3.
Some standouts from Saturday’s scrimmage include defensive lineman Greg Townsend, a former 4-star prospect whose time at USC has been marred by injury. Offensively, freshman running back Dominic showed great footwork and found holes effectively.
Townsend and Davis were two players Sarkisian praised in his post-scrimmage press conference.
