Notable Omissions from the FWAA 75th Anniversary Team

In the spring, the FWAA solicited votes from its members — of which I am one — to put together this squad.

I didn’t receive an “I Voted!” sticker upon submitting my ballot. Boo! But my participation does mean I’m at least putting my money where my mouth is in spotlighting the 75th Anniversary omissions that stand out to me.

Among them is Syracuse legend Ernie Davis, who blazed a trail in sports as the first black student-athlete to win the game’s coveted honor, the Heisman Trophy.

Davis is one of the noteworthy omissions from the Football Writers Association of America’s 75th Anniversary All-America Team, unveiled Thursday.

Editor’s note: Barry Sanders, a Second Team selection, was removed. He was initially included because of his placement on the Second Team and not first, but was removed to feature only true omissions.
