Colorado wide receiver Nelson Spruce added to his national-leading touchdown reception mark in the Buffs’ 21-12 defeat of Hawaii Saturday. And No. 7 came in spectacular fashion:

Paul Richardson was one of the nation’s premier wideouts in 2011 and 2013, and his early departure for the NFL left a tremendous void in the Buffs’ receiving corps.
“I don’t think we’re going to replace [Richardson] with one single player,” Spruce told me at Pac-12 media days in July. And yet, thus far, he’s doing so quite adequately.
Though Saturday was Spruce’s first game with just one touchdown on the season, he hauled in a remarkable 13 balls for 172 yards–both personal highs.
He’s now up to 518 yards and 37 catches on the year, which pending the final outcome of the Alabama-Florida game, puts Nelson Spruce ahead of Crimson Tide star Amari Cooper in both categories.
Until opposing defenses find a way to contain Spruce, I anticipate Mike MacIntyre’s play-call sheet will be influenced heavily by one Montgomery Burns.
