Today’s game against Navy is the first in a full season Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller will miss due to a shoulder injury. The Buckeye field general may not be on the field physically, but tight end Jeff Heuerman ensured Miller will be represented in spirit.
The Ohio State co-captain changed his number from 86 to Miller’s No. 5, as shared via Twitter:

That's a very captain move from Heuerman.

Heuerman came to Ohio State in the same 2011 recruiting class that brought Miller. Last season, he was on the receiving end of three Braxton Miller touchdown passes, including one in the Orange Bowl.
Heuerman is himself limited today because of a foot injury. He explained his role against Navy to Tim Shoemaker of ElevenWarriors.com:
“I’m playing Saturday,” Heuerman said, “but it’s just kind of one of those things how much. It’s a long season is the way the coaches are handling it so you’ve gotta kind of look at the big picture a lot. I’ll definitely be out there on Saturday, though, there’s no doubt about that.”
Though his opportunities will be limited, it would only be fitting if Heuerman could get the No. 5 in the end zone for the Buckeyes.
Redshirt freshman J.T. Barrett makes his debut in place of Braxton Miller.
